Terms of Service

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of TransferMaps (the “Service”), operated by TransferMaps (“TransferMaps,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. The Service

TransferMaps is a planning tool that helps California community college students explore articulation agreements and build semester-by-semester course plans toward transfer to UC, CSU, and other institutions. The Service is provided for informational and planning purposes only.

2. Not academic advice

TransferMaps does not provide official academic, admissions, or counseling advice. Course articulation, transfer requirements, and admissions criteria change frequently and can vary by institution, major, and catalog year. The information shown may be incomplete, outdated, or inaccurate. You are solely responsible for verifying all requirements with your academic counselor and with the official sources, including ASSIST.org and the receiving institutions, before enrolling in courses or making transfer decisions. We are not responsible for academic, financial, or other consequences resulting from reliance on the Service.

We do not guarantee admission to any college or university, or that you will be found eligible to transfer. Admission decisions rest entirely with the receiving institutions and depend on factors outside the Service, including your grades, the completeness and accuracy of your application, the competitiveness of your major, and each school’s own criteria in a given year. Following a plan built with TransferMaps does not create any entitlement to admission, to a particular major, or to a particular transfer timeline.

3. AI-assisted essay feedback

Pro accounts can request automated feedback on essay drafts. That feedback is generated by a third-party AI model and is offered as a second opinion, nothing more.

It can be wrong. It may misread your draft, miss its strengths, contradict itself between requests, or give advice that does not fit the prompt or the school you are applying to. Scores and suggestions are estimates produced by software, not judgements by an admissions officer, and they do not predict how any reader will actually receive your essay. Treat it the way you would a comment from a classmate: useful, and not the final word. Your counselor, your professors, and the school’s own guidance outrank it.

The essay must remain your own work. The Service is designed to comment on your writing rather than write it for you, and submitting work that is not your own may violate the academic-integrity or application-certification rules of your college and of the schools you apply to. You are responsible for what you submit under your name.

To generate feedback we send the text of the draft, the essay prompt, and no other personal information to our AI provider. See the Privacy Policy for how that is handled. If you would rather not have a draft processed this way, do not request feedback on it.

4. Scholarship listings

The Service may show you scholarships and other financial-aid opportunities, and may highlight the ones your plan and coursework appear to match.

A listing is information, not an offer of money, and a match is not a determination that you are eligible. Eligibility rules, award amounts, application requirements, and deadlines are set entirely by the organization offering the scholarship, and they change without notice. What we show you may be incomplete, out of date, or wrong. Verify every detail with the provider before you rely on it. Where we show a “last verified” date, that is the last time we checked — not a promise that nothing has changed since.

We do not submit applications for you, we do not take part in any selection, and we cannot influence any decision. We are not responsible for a scholarship you did not receive, an application you did not finish, or a deadline that passed — including where the Service showed the wrong date, showed nothing at all, or failed to remind you. Deadlines remain yours to meet.

Unless a listing says otherwise, we are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the organizations whose scholarships we list, and we are not paid to list them. If that ever changes for a particular listing, we will say so on the listing itself.

An outside scholarship can reduce the aid your college has already offered you. Many schools adjust need-based packages when a student receives an outside award. Check with your college’s financial aid office before counting on any amount.

5. Scholarships we offer ourselves

We may from time to time offer our own scholarships or awards to TransferMaps users. Each program will have its own official rules, and those rules control wherever they differ from this section.

No purchase is necessary, and a paid subscription is never required to enter or to win. A TransferMaps Pro subscription gives you no advantage in any selection we run, and what you have paid us is not something any reviewer considers.

How entry works.Pro subscribers are entered automatically into any program they qualify for, because your account already holds what an entry needs. On a free account you can enter exactly the same programs at no charge by completing that program’s entry form, and we will tell you up front what it asks for. Free and Pro entries go into the same pool and are judged against the same criteria. The difference is only in how an entry gets submitted, never in how it is weighed, and being on a free account cannot reduce your chance of being selected.

How recipients are chosen.Awards are made on the merits against criteria stated in advance in that program’s rules. Those criteria may include your coursework, grades, units completed, intended major and transfer goals, an essay or short answers you submit, and financial need. To evaluate an entry we will look at academic information already in your account — if you would rather we did not, do not enter, as nothing else in the Service uses your records this way. See the Privacy Policy for what reviewers can see. Selection decisions are final, and we may decline to make an award if no entry meets the criteria.

Verification. We may ask you to confirm your enrollment, your identity, or anything in your entry before we pay an award. We may disqualify an entry containing information that is false, plagiarized, or not your own work.

Payment and taxes.We may pay an award to you directly or to your college on your behalf. An award may be taxable income, and we may have to collect tax information from you before paying it. You are responsible for any tax you owe and for reporting the award. We do not give tax advice — ask a tax professional. As with any outside scholarship, an award from us may reduce need-based aid your college has offered, so check with your financial aid office.

If you are under 18, we may require a parent or guardian to consent before you enter or before we pay an award.

Publicity. If you win, we may publish your first name, last initial, and college to announce the award. Tell us you would rather we did not, and we will not.

We may change, suspend, or end any scholarship program we run, including before an award is made. Void where prohibited by law.

6. Subscriptions, billing, and cancellation

The core planner is free. TransferMaps Pro is a paid, auto-renewing monthly subscription that unlocks AI essay feedback, additional target schools per plan, and plan sharing.

• Auto-renewal. Pro renews automatically each month at the price shown at checkout, charged to your payment method, until you cancel.
• Cancelling. You can cancel at any time from Settings. Cancellation stops the next renewal; you keep Pro until the end of the period you have already paid for, and nothing you have created is deleted when it ends.
• Refunds. Payments are generally non-refundable, including for partial months. If something went wrong on our side, contact us at rigamarollmedia@gmail.com and we will look at it in good faith.
• Price changes. We may change the price of Pro. Any change applies from your next renewal, never retroactively, and we will tell you before it takes effect.
• Fair-use limits. AI feedback carries a monthly request allowance, shown in Settings, so that one account cannot exhaust a shared resource. We may adjust it, and may suspend access for automated or abusive use.
• Complimentary access. We sometimes grant Pro at no charge, for example to student ambassadors. Complimentary access is a courtesy, is granted for a set period, and may expire or be withdrawn; it does not entitle you to a refund or to continued access.

Payments are processed by Stripe. We never receive or store your full card details.

7. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. By using the Service, you represent that you meet this requirement and that the information you provide is accurate.

8. Your account

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us promptly at rigamarollmedia@gmail.com if you suspect unauthorized use of your account. You agree to provide accurate information and to keep it current.

9. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these Terms.
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, other users’ accounts, or our systems.
• Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service.
• Scrape, copy, or harvest data from the Service except as expressly permitted.
• Upload content that infringes the rights of others or that you do not have the right to share.

10. Your content

You retain ownership of the plans, course records, and other information you submit to the Service (“Your Content”). You grant us a limited license to store, process, and display Your Content solely to operate and provide the Service to you. You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to submit Your Content, including any transcript information.

11. Third-party data and trademarks

The Service references data and names associated with third parties, including ASSIST.org, the University of California, the California State University, and individual colleges. TransferMaps is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any of them. All third-party names and trademarks are the property of their respective owners.

12. Disclaimer of warranties

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that the information it provides is accurate or complete.

13. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, TransferMaps and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, opportunities, financial aid, scholarship awards, or academic standing, arising out of or related to your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed one hundred U.S. dollars (US$100).

14. Termination

You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or if we discontinue the Service. Upon termination, the provisions that by their nature should survive (including disclaimers and limitations of liability) will continue to apply.

15. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

16. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any disputes arising from these Terms or the Service will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in California.
